How to Extend the Lifespan of Your Grill Propane Tank
Keep your cylinders full with Symank Energy’s help
Swapping out an empty propane cylinder for a full one is nothing particularly complicated. Neither is the process of filling up an empty grill tank thanks to Symank Energy’s help.
The same goes for helping your grill tank last as long as possible. It takes a little effort, but it is fairly simple and straightforward. On top of that, it will help ensure that your grill is ready to be fired up at all times and can even equate to cost savings.
So if you are someone who likes to spend the spring and summer outside grilling up a storm in your backyard, you should definitely do everything in your power to help extend your grill tank’s lifespan.
Caring for a Propane Cylinder
Getting as many years as possible out of a propane cylinder comes down to proper care and maintenance. More specifically, this means:
- Not letting yourself get too low on fuel: Keep track of your propane levels with a gauge or a scale. This will help prevent a fuel run-out, which can be a huge hassle.
- Looking for leaks: Propane leaks can contribute to cutting down on a grill tank’s lifespan, which is why regular inspections for leaks are highly recommended.
- Storing your tank correctly and safely: A tank that is stored properly will last longer than one that is improperly stored. A grill tank should be kept in a well-ventilated area outdoors that is out of direct sunlight. You also want to keep it a safe distance away from anything that is potentially flammable.
- Not letting them get wet: A build-up of moisture on a propane cylinder can lead to rust, and rust can cut down on a tank’s longevity.
- Turning the valve off after each grill session: Closing the valve on your tank helps to cut back on the wear and tear that a tank can experience. Additionally, it helps to conserve propane—so following this step is definitely a win-win.
Installing a New Propane Cylinder
Knowing how to correctly install a new grill tank will help you avoid damaging it, which is another way to ensure it lasts a good amount of time. When it comes time to do this, follow the steps below:
- Place a new propane cylinder in the storage compartment of your grill.
- Tighten the restraining bolt in the storage compartment (if it has one).
- Put the pressure regulator on the cylinder valve and make sure it’s tight.
- Use soapy water to spray the cylinder’s valve and the grill’s regulator. Then, open the valve and check for bubbles. Bubbles indicate a leak or a loose connection.
- If you see bubbles, close the valve, check all connections, spray again, and reopen the valve. If bubbles persist, replace the hose or try a different cylinder.
